Red Lobster Closings: Impact on South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota Locations
The rash of closings for a major restaurant chain has entered its latest phase.
USA Today is reporting that Red Lobster is shuttering another 23 locations across the nation as part of their Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
That will bring the grand total to 129 of the chain's restaurants closing in 2024.
The announcement comes in a 23-page court document filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, stating that the company was rejecting the leases of an additional 23 locations by August 31.
So what does that mean for the Red Lobster locations in the Tri-State area?
Iowa already lost two locations (Council Bluffs, Waterloo) in the initial round of closings announced earlier this year. The Hawkeye State was spared on the new list of closings and still operates locations in:
- Ames
- Cedar Rapids
- Coralville
- Davenport
- Sioux City
- West Des Moines
Minnesota, which did have a location on the initial list, is now going to see two restaurants close (Golden Valley, Maple Grove).
That will leave Red Lobster with 10 locations in the North Star State:
- Bloomington
- Burnsville
- Duluth
- Mankato
- Maplewood
- Minneapolis
- Oakdale
- Rochester
- Roseville
- Saint Cloud
South Dakota continues to be unaffected by the closures, with two locations still up and running in the Mount Rushmore State:
- Rapid City
- Sioux Falls
