Massive Lottery Win, But a Big Jackpot Is Set to Expire in Iowa
So much focus is placed on the huge jackpots in lottery games like Powerball, Lotto America, and Mega Millions that it's easy to forget that some scratch games also pay out pretty decent amounts.
No one needs to remind an Eastern Iowa woman of that - she's a half-million dollars richer thanks to a scratch ticket.
Iowa Lottery officials say Debora Dunn of Bettendorf won $500,000 in the Mega Bucks scratch game after purchasing the winning ticket at her hometown Kwik Star on Belmont Road.
She claimed her prize this week at the Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive.
Mega Bucks is a $50 scratch game that features 13 top prizes of $500,000 and 12 prizes of $25,000.
While Debra celebrates her big win, another lottery player, also in Bettendorf, is just days away from seeing a massive jackpot win slip through their fingers.
An unclaimed winning Powerball ticket worth $50,000 is set to expire in less than a month.
Lottery officials say the ticket from the July 29, 2024 drawing, matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball to earn the big payday. It was purchased at the Kwik Star location on 53rd Avenue in Bettendorf.
The jackpot will expire on January 27.
