I was born in Iowa and I didn't even know all of these.

The folks at Only In Your State put together a list having to do with the state where I was born.

When I was a kid I lived on a farm in northeastern Iowa. But I still didn't understand every word and phrase in this list of the “10 Words You'll Only Understand If You Are From Iowa.”

So what do you think? Are there really words or phrases that you'll only understand if you are from the Hawkeye State?

Padiddle: When I was growing up in Iowa and we'd see a car with one headlight burnt out we would punch whoever was sitting next to us in the shoulder and yell "Padiddle". It seemed entertaining at the time.

Cornhole: Not sure what you are thinking, but it's a lawn game where you toss bean bags at a hole cut out in a piece of plywood. It's played at bars and family reunions.

Pop: Not soda, cola, or Coke ... it's pop.

Crick: No, it's not a baby cricket, it's not a pain in your back it's a small river in Iowa called a "crick" or "creek."

Puppy Chow: It's not for dogs. It's a delicious snack treat made with creamy peanut butter, chocolate chips, and Rice Chex cereal.

RAGBRAI: It sounds like a sickness you don't want to catch but it stands for "Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa".  It's a week-long festival of biking, camping, eating, and drinking...mostly drinking.

Pork Queen: In any other state, this might be an insult, but in Iowa, it's actually an honor. A Pork Queen wears her crown with pride.

Youth Straw Poll: It is not a post for kids made of hay. Schools give students a chance to voice their opinion on the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and Iowa Governor elections.

Prairie Lights: It's not the Aurora Borealis it's actually a really popular bookstore where many high-profile authors do signings.

Knee-high by the Fourth of July: This is an old-time farmer saying that means if the corn you planted in spring is "knee high boy the 4th" your crop is in pretty good shape.

Iowa Palmer Company's Twin Bing Products

Can you even really claim to live in this part of the country if you've never had a Twin Bing?

WHAT IS A TWIN BING?

"It consists of two round, chewy, cherry-flavored nougats coated with a mixture of chopped peanuts and chocolate. The Twin Bing was introduced in the 1960s," -Wikipedia

Not only has the TB been a staple of the Sioux Empire for over half a decade, but the makers of the classic candy have also infused the unique cherry and chocolate flavor into lots of other things.
