Sioux Falls is hosting yet another basketball tournament this weekend, which means there will once again be visitors galore in South Dakota's largest city. The city of Sioux Falls stands to cash in again big time this weekend in the form of an economic driver for shopping, dining, and lodging.
Dakota News Now reports that the boost to the Sioux Falls economy could be just north of 8 million dollars when you factor in the combined revenue generated from the annual South Dakota State Dart Tournament, the NSIC Basketball tournament last weekend, and the Summit League games this weekend.
Experience Sioux Falls CEO Teri Schmidt, told Dakota News Now that the city doesn’t take hosting these big-ticket events for granted. Schmidt says, "That all makes a win-win for everybody. They’re appreciated, they’re honored for being here and Sioux Falls has the opportunity to host them because we know that any of these events could move out of town at any time, so it’s a big deal.”
One thing is for certain, Sioux Falls is prepared, ready, and willing to roll out the red carpet to every athlete, fan, and first-time visitor to the city.
According to Schmidt, Sioux Falls main goal again this weekend is to make sure every visitor knows that the city is happy they’re here. Our main objective is to show off the city and showcase just how friendly and nice Sioux Falls residents are.
