Thanks to the winter weather that's hit the Sioux Empire over the past few weeks, the gang at Great Bear has been working day and night making fresh powder for its slopes. Mother Nature has helped along the way by adding several inches of snow herself and looks as if she's prepared to dump a few more again this Wednesday and Thursday on the area which will help make the skiing conditions at The Bear even better.

In a press release sent on Monday (December 19) Great Bear announced that they hope to have 100% of their runs open starting on Monday the 26th (weather permitting.)

Great Bear will have extended hours in effect over the long holiday break through January 2nd. They also plan to light the fuse on a big fireworks display planned for midnight on New Year's Eve.

Here is a look at the extended hours over the holidays:

During the 2022-2023 season, there will be no capacity limits on lift tickets and all rental equipment will be available on a first-come first served basis.

The Bear also wants to remind guests that tubing will be held in sessions. They highly recommend that people purchase tubing tickets online to reserve a spot.

If you're just a beginner skier and need someone to show you the fundamentals and intricacies of skiing, Great Bear does offer lessons. Again, it's recommended that guests book those online as well.

Anyone familiar with winter in this part of the country knows weather conditions can seemingly change in a millisecond. That's why Great Bear wants guests to "Know Before You Go."  Skiers can always get the most up-to-date information on the ski valley here or by calling 367-4309.
