A while ago, I threw out a few ideas for the empty former-Gordmans building near the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls. Like an Ikea or a Trader Joe's; or we could build a time machine and make it a Tower Recoreds from 1992.

Well, nobody took any of my ideas, but we now know what will be going into the old Gordmans spot in Sioux Falls. It's going to be a Crunch Fitness franchise.

What's Going into The Gordmans Building in Sioux Falls

According to their website, Crunch Fitness started in New Your City in 1989. They have grown to over 400 locations nationwide. They brand themselves as having a "No Judgments Philosophy."

We haven't seen a timeline, but Dakota News Now reported that a renovation of the Gordman's building will be the first step. Recruitment posts have been posted on various job sites, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the place opened this year.

The Gordmans off-price department store, across the parking lot from the Empire Mall, was a staple of Sioux Falls shopping for thirty years.

In September 2020, the store closed for the final time. Since then the building has sat empty, except for brief stints as a Halloween store.

For thirty years the people of Sioux Falls saw the sign for Gordmans off-price department store across the parking lot from the Empire Mall.

In September of 2020, the store closed for its final time. Since then the building has sat empty, something that doesn't happen too often in Sioux Falls.

We were wondering what people in Sioux Falls would like to see take over the space. Some folks wanted their Gordmans back. It was a great place to find deals on clothing. But, all the Gordmans are gone, so that's a no-go.

And since we've gotten our Chick Fil A and Chipotle, the city is primed for another thing to line up for.
