Man Kills Mountain Lion With a Shovel in Colorado
A man was camping with his dog west of Canon City, Colorado in Fremont County had to kill a mountain lion last week according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The man told Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials that he was sitting outside his recreational vehicle on September 25, when a mountain lion approached him and his dog at the campsite.
The man states that his dog, a husky, started to growl and bark when the mountain lion approached them. The mountain lion inched closer to the campsite and when the big cat got within 10 feet of the man and his dog, the dog engaged with the mountain lion and the man grabbed a shovel, hitting it in the head and killing it.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says that the preliminary investigation shows that the man was in fear for his life when the mountain lion was acting unusual and extremely aggressive. Officials inspected the mountain lion, which has an injury on its front right pay and scratches on its back. The Colorado mountain lion was a female and weighed approximately 95 pounds.
Mountain lion attacks on humans are pretty rare in the state of Colorado as there have only been 25 attacks reported on humans in the past 34 years according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. This latest incident involving the killing of a mountain lion is not considered an attack according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife as the big cat never touched or injured the man.
