MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — The driver in the crash that killed a 14-year-old boy in Mitchell in June will spend 13 years in prison.

The Daily Republic reports that 23-year-old Karla Martinez was handed a 15-year sentence with two years suspended Tuesday. The Mitchell woman, who earlier pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, also received credit for 124 days served.

Martinez admitted last month in court that she drank numerous mixed drinks on June 25 before her sport utility vehicle rolled in the ditch off a gravel road west of Mitchell. Records show her blood alcohol level was nearly double the legal limit when the crash happened.

The fatal victim, Lenard Boyer, of Mitchell, was a front-seat passenger and was ejected from the SUV. Three other boys sitting in the backseat suffered minor injuries.
