DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) — Deadwood Gaming officials say 2016 appears to be off to a good start, with January numbers showing small, positive gains.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports that monthly data from the South Dakota Commission on Gaming shows that gamers dropped $85.2 million in Deadwood machines and on tables in January, a 1.71 percent increase over January 2015.

That resulted in about $7.5 million in taxable adjusted gross revenues for the industry in January.

Deadwood Gaming Association executive director Mike Rodman says customers continue to enjoy playing the new games of keno, craps and roulette, which drove the table-game handle up over last January.

Celebrity Hotel General Manager Ken Gienger says it's nice to start the new year with Deadwood's overall gaming numbers higher than the last two Januaries.
