Hunting season is officially here. With all the game you are able to go after in the state of South Dakota, it’s easy to get confused on which day each season officially opens. Here is a list of important dates that you should know before you head into the field.

  • Morning Dove Opener: September 1
  • Canadian Geese Opener: September 3
  • Mentored Deer Opener: September 10
  • Mentored Turkey Opener: September 10
  • Youth Deer Opener: September 12
  • Archery Deer Opener: September 24
  • Duck Opener: Depends on zone. Please refer to http://gfp.sd.gov/hunting/waterfowl/ducks.aspx
  • Black Hills Elk Opener: October 1
  • Antelope (firearms) Opener: October 1
  • Resident Pheasant Opener: October 8
  • Pheasant Opener: October 15
  • Fall Turkey Opener: November 1
  • CSP Deer Opener: November 5
  • West River Deer Opener: November 12
  • East River Deer Opener: November 19
  • Muzzleloader Deer Opener: December 1
