As soon as the snow stops falling, the clock starts ticking when it comes to getting your sidewalks shoveled.

The city of Sioux Falls doesn't mess around, it will start issuing citations if you fail to clear your sidewalks within the 48-hour grace period. Keep that in mind with the threat of even more snow coming our way over the long Thanksgiving Day weekend.

Code Enforcement Manager Matt Tobias reminds Sioux Falls residents that if snow and ice are not removed from sidewalks within 48 hours, the property will receive a citation and potentially be charged the cost of snow removal.

Options like The Scoop It program are available for low-income or disabled individuals who are unable to shovel their own snow. To be eligible you must live within the Sioux Falls city limits, you must be elderly or disabled and unable to afford to pay someone to shovel your walks, or have no other means of removing the snow, like the help of a family member or neighbor.

There's also a form you must complete if you're interested in receiving this service. Get more information by calling by calling 211 or 339-4357.

Need to to turn in that deadbeat neighbor who never seems to shovel? Snow removal violations can be reported by calling 978-6900 during normal business hours. Make sure to leave a voice message after hours or on weekends.
