YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — A new water treatment plant in Yankton is expected to cost more than what officials had anticipated.

The Yankton Daily Press and Dakotan reports the price increase comes from a number of factors. Yankton City Manager Amy Nelson says the plant's original estimates were made about three years ago, leading to "some cost impact." In addition, the city now will treat more water.

The project's price was initially estimated at around $18 million. The new cost will depend on the decisions of the Yankton City Commission, including aesthetics and the possibility of additional office and garage space.

Nelson says officials still have to discuss how to raise the additional money that will be needed for the project.

Officials are planning on opening the bidding process in the spring.
