Yankton Hosts First Events to Mark Statehood
YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — Yankton was the capital of Dakota Territory and will host the first events tied to South Dakota’s 125th anniversary of statehood in 2014.
The free activities planned for Saturday include a walking tour of historic sites, a social hour with the governor, lieutenant governor and their wives and a statehood ball at which people are encouraged to wear clothing from the period.
