Yankton County Plans Election ‘Vote Centers’
YANKTON, S.D. (AP) – A South Dakota county is setting up a network of voting centers for the November election.
Election officials say Yankton County voters will be able to mark their ballots at any one of seven voting centers in the county. They won’t have to vote at a specific precinct. The usual polling stations won’t be open.
County Auditor Paula Jones says the system means voters won’t have to worry about going to the wrong polling place. She says it should cut costs and make election administration more efficient.
South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says voting centers have been used in Sioux Falls and three rural counties. He tells the Yankton Press & Dakotan the concept has been successful.
