I never got to see Yogi Berra play baseball.

By the time I was old enough to love baseball ( a life long love I still have!), Yogi's prime playing days were over. But as a guy who also loves history, I sure did know Yogi Berra.

While it was always fashionable for kids like me to hate the Yankees, there was something about Yogi you had to love. He was, of course, one of the greatest players in the history of the game. He played at a time when the Yankees won every World Series! OK, perhaps not every one, but real, real close!

And then the famous 'Yogism's'. He is probably better known today for what he said (and how he said it) than he is for his playing days. In a way that's too bad, in a way it's perfect.

Rest In Peace, Yogi. It's Over.

NEW YORK (AP) - Yogi Berra, the Hall of Fame catcher renowned as much for his dizzying malapropisms as his record 10 World Series championships with the New York Yankees, has died. He was 90.
Berra died of natural causes Tuesday at his home in New Jersey, according to Dave Kaplan, the director of the Yogi Berra Museum.
Short, squat and with a homely mug, Berra was a legendary Yankee who helped the team reach 14 World Series during his 18 seasons in the Bronx.
Berra played in more World Series games than any other major leaguer, and was a three-time American League Most Valuable Player.
But his name appears almost as often in Bartlett's Famous Quotations as it does in baseball's record book.
