Woman Killed Crossing Yankton Street Identified

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — Yankton police say a 15-year-old boy who struck and killed an 81-year-old woman with his vehicle told officers he was adjusting his radio when the incident occurred.

Eleanor Shane, of Viborg, died at the scene Thursday afternoon. Another woman who was crossing the street with Shane to take in a garage sale also was hit, and hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The teenage driver has not been identified.

Authorities are still investigating.
