On January 10, 1870, John D. Rockefeller incorporated Standard Oil. He would go on to become the nation's first billionaire. Adjusted for inflation, he may have been the richest person in history.

He spent the last 40 years of his life in retirement. Rockefeller lived to be 97 years old.

At a young age he was told to make as much money as he could and give as much of it away to others as possible. He took the advise to heart.
