Who Remember’s Broderick Crawford In ‘Highway Patrol’?
From 1955 to 1959, while Jack Webb might be chasing down the bad guys in Los Angeles, Broderick Crawford was the ‘go to’ guy on the highway’s of California.
Crawford portrayed Dan Mathews and the half hour weekly series totaled 156 episodes in it’s 4 seasons. Yes, back in ‘those days’ television series aired more than the, what, eight or ten episodes it now airs.
And at the end of each episode (as you’ll see in the video clip), there was always a ‘closing word’. Perhaps ‘It isn’t the car that kills…it’s the driver’, or ‘Leave your blood at the Red Cross, not the highway’.
Broderick Crawford had a long and successful acting career and passed away at the age of 74 in 1986. But Dan Mathews still patrol’s the California highway’s in his back and white (and in black and white!).
