The Green Bay Packers drafted three running backs in the 2017 NFL Draft after they claimed that Ty Montgomery is still their starting running back.

I talked to Montgomery back on Radio Row in January and he told us that "he believes he can be an every down back".

That may turn out to be true and I hope it does, because I think that would be a good thing for the overall production of the running game for the Packers.

Either way, the Packers appear to want to have a contingency plan in case it doesn't pan out that way.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky reported this as well.

Coach Mike McCarthy made that declaration Saturday, even after the Packers drafted three running backs -- something they haven't done in 43 years.

"Absolutely, he's our starting running back," McCarthy said shortly after the draft ended. "I think it gives us excellent depth, and it will be nice to have a full room."

So who are the three running backs that the Green Bay Packers drafted in 2017?

In the fourth round, they selected Jamaal Williams of BYU. In the fifth round, they selected Aaron Jones of UTEP. And in the seventh round they drafted Devante Mays of Utah State.

It should also be noted that the Packers have Christine Michael and Don Jackson on their running back depth chart as well.

A position that looked to be getting a bit more thin in more ways than one with the departure of Eddy Lacy, just got a lot more crowded.
