What’s The Best Pie?
I really love a good piece of pie. There’s no better way to spice up the day than treating yourself to a slice of heaven.
The only problem is deciding on what flavor. Oh’ I’ve got my favorites. But that’s the problem. I can only eat one piece, so what favorite will it be today?
Now the same old thing flashes thru my mind like it always does at this point. I just wish my mom was still alive to bake her famous pies.
It didn’t matter what flavor she made. They were all good. If she made two different flavors, then I’ll have two pieces today, one of each.
Then another memory kicks in that will always prevent me from ordering a slice of lemon pie. It’s not what you may think here. I love lemon pie.
But late aunt Emma always made me a lemon pie for my birthday when I was a kid. And by request from me, she did not put on the Meringue. Just a plain lemon pie.
I can still taste it in my mind. But in the real world there’s nothing like it since aunt Em passed away. Any other lemon pie will be a let down, so that’s why I won’t order lemon.
Another treat is pecan pie warmed up with a scoop of ice cream. An what about peach pie or banana cream?
I want a piece of pumpkin with whipped cream, but they tell me it’s out of season. They’re special today is wild berry. I don’t even know what the hell a wild berry is!
Well, let’s play it safe and have some good old apple pie. I checked a survey done by Mrs. Smith’s parent company on what is America’s favorite pie. Not surprisingly apple got the most votes at 25%. The next 25% was split evenly between pumpkin and chocolate cream.
The other 50% of the pie (no pun intended) was shared pretty evenly with cherry, pecan, lemon, blueberry, key lime and peach.
I checked even farther into things and called the HyVee bakery department at the South Minnesota Avenue store in Sioux Falls, SD. I had the pleasure of talking to Sam who bakes pies everyday. The answer was the same with apple being number one in their oven. She reported cherry being number two.
Now I’m thinking about cheesecake with cherry topping. I gotta get out of this story before it’s too late!
