Whatever Happened To Joe Stampley?

Joe Stampley had his first #1 Country hit in 1972 with ‘Soul Song’.  That would be the first of a dozen Top Ten hit Joe would have in the 1970′s, including two more #1′s, ‘Roll On Big Mama’, heard on this clip, in 1975 and ‘All These Things’ in 1976.

And that doesn’t include his duet hit’s with Moe Bandy, including the 1979 #1 ‘Just Good Ol’ Boys’.

Joe came out of Springhill, Louisiana and initially was a rock singer with the band ‘The Uniques’, a group that had one national hit in the mid 1960′s.

The band broke up in 1970 and Joe signed with ABC-Dot records in 1971, and the country hits began for him the following year.

Moe and Joe had several hit singles, the final coming in 1984.

So whatever happened to Joe Stampley?

Well, I’m happy to say Joe is alive and well and still occasionally performs around the Springhill, Louisiana area at the age of 70.
