There was a time when Yazoo City, Mississippi was almost a second home for country music fan's.

While Yazoo City may not been quite as famous as Minnie Pearl's Grinder's Switch, it wasn't far behind thanks to the legendary country storyteller Jerry Clower.

The Liberty, Mississippi native and World War II veteran would take the stage and begin 'spinning a yarn' about his home area and the people (real or not!) that lived there. And while it seemed easy, this humorist was a true genius in what he did. Some say a great country song tell's a story. Well, perhaps it could be said that Jerry sang great country songs...without singing and without music!

Need a great example? OK, let's go on a coon huntin' trip with Jerry.

So whatever happened to Jerry Clower?

Well, Jerry left us in 1998 following heart bypass surgery. He was 71, was married over 50 years to the same lovely woman and left behind 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Oh, and he also left behind all the unforgettable character's from our 'second home', Yazoo City, Mississippi.
