Whatever Happened To Claude King
It sold well over a million copies in 1962 and was a huge country and pop music smash.
It was ‘Wolverton Mountain’, recorded by Claude King.
Claude was born in Louisiana and earned a baseball scholarship to the University of Idaho. He was also a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy.
He did some recording in the 1950′s, but it wasn’t until the spring of 1962 that he introduced us to Clifton Flowers and we all climbed up on ‘Wolverton Mountain’ (by the way, written by another country legend, Merle Kilgore).
The song remained on top of the Country Music charts for 9 consecutive weeks and was a Top 10 Pop Music hit as well.
So whatever happened to Claude King?
Claude recorded music well into the 2000′s and passed away in March of this year (2013) at the age of 90. Oh, it was just a month after his wife Barbara and he celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary!
