You've sung along with it through the years. You might have been singing along with Englebert Humperdinck, who had a massive pop music hit with it. Maybe you sang along with gentleman Jim Reeves (as a side note, don't sing along with Jim Reeves, you're not as good). It might have been Skeeter Davis or Patti page or even George Jones. Or any of several others.

That's what happens to a great, well written song like 'Am I That Easy To Forget'.

A guy named Carl Belew, along with a guy named W.S. Stevenson, wrote that song (which has become more of a standard) in 1958. Oh, and i forget to mention a name among all those legends that recorded the song.

Carl himself. He had a big country hit with it in 1959.

This boy from Salina, Oklahoma didn't have a Hall of Fame singing career. He charted about a dozen songs, including a couple Top Ten's. But he was a mainstay in the music we love for decades and wrote great songs that were recorded by artist's from many different musical genre's (Yes, even Andy Williams recognized the writing genius of Carl).

So whatever happened to Carl Belew, this man who wrote one of the biggest music hits of the last half of the 20th century?\

Well, Carl passed away due to cancer in 1990 at the much too young age of 59. But the next time you hear 'Am I That Easy To Forget' (and you will hear it, a great song never dies) go ahead, turn it up, sing along and remember the great Carl Belew.
