I've read, as you probably have, about Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett's revelation that he's dealing with memory loss and the things that go along with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).

It's an all-too-common story these days, and it makes me wonder how we as football fans should feel about the game.

Here's a guy, 59 years old, who was one of the greatest running backs of his time or any time, and he says his daughters are scared of him.

Dorsett was examined at UCLA along with a couple of other former NFL stars, and the diagnosis that anyone, football player or not,  would dread came back.

It's not to say that if you play pro football, you eventually will lose your memory and everything else. But when you're remembered as someone who "put his head down and rammed through the line," even if he "got his bell rung," is it worth it?

Vince Lombardi was quoted as saying "Football is not a contact sport. It's a collision sport. Dancing is a contact sport."

But at what cost?
