Boy, didn't you hate having to write these essays in grade school? It seems like all we ever did on Christmas vacation was go sledding, bake cookies, play board games and watch TV.

Apparently not much has changed in my life, except for the sledding and board games. My sister Carolyn, (who lives in Montana) came out to spend the holidays with me this year and when my best friend, Georgie asked her what she planned to do, her response was, "I plan to sleep, eat, drink and do a whole lot of nothing!". With a few minor exceptions we stayed pretty close to those intentions.

This is our traditional Christmas morning breakfast, Anise bread with lots of butter. Yum!! We also made three different kinds of cookies, which is far less than what we usually do, but hey there were only two of us. Speaking of the two of us, this is Carolyn showing off her new Hello Kitty loungewear that morning.

We slept in a lot, and that in itself was a huge Christmas gift which we gave ourselves! I did have to respond to my pups requests to get outside fairly early and Carolyn had to put up with their barking until I did, but then we'd come back in and snuggle back into a still warm bed until a more reasonable hour. I really enjoyed spending Christmas with my pups and kitties. as it was the first time since I got my dogs that I spent the holidays in my own home.

The "doing nothing" portion of our Christmas was a melange of talking, laughing and watching lots of movies, including classics like It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story and White Christmas, as well as a lot of not-so-classic, silly Hallmark holiday romances.

And our drink of choice this year was the refreshing Moscow Mule, made with lime juice, ginger ale, (you can use the more gingery Ginger Beer, but I had trouble finding it) and vodka and served in a chilled copper mug. Carolyn bought the mugs at home in Montana and sent them here, for us to enjoy this zingy beverage in the traditional way.

It was fairly low-key and just the way I love it- -peaceful. I hope yours was just the way you like it too.
