One of the  largest American multinational retail chains is changing its name. After 47 years, Wal-mart is changing its name to reflect a big change in their business.

According to USA Today, "Wal-Mart will no longer be 'Wal-Mart Stores' and will get rid of the hyphen and drop "stores" from its legal name."

This is only the second time the retail giant has changed its name. In 1969, then Wal-Mart first opened in 1969, the store was opened as Wal-mart, Inc.

Starting February 1, 2018, the store will now be referred to as Walmart. Not much of a difference since most of the buildings signs out front of their stores already say Walmart (sans hyphen).

As of January 31, 2017, Walmart has 11,695 stores and clubs in 28 countries.
