SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Volunteers spent part of their weekend in the yards of Sioux Falls residents replacing tress lost in the April ice storm.

KELO television reports that some 300 volunteers planted about 500 trees across the city Saturday. Each home also received a hand-made birdhouse.

Raymond Tieszen says he lost a tree in his front yard after the city deemed it unsafe.

He says he's happy to get help planting a new one as after back surgery he's not able to dig. He calls the volunteer effort a wonderful program.
