It was an offensive onslaught for the Nebraska Cornhuskers during the 2013 Spring Football game, Saturday in Lincoln, as the Red beat the White 32-25, in front of 60,174 fans.

The Nebraska offense was in mid-season form, racking up 421 yards of offense in the first half alone, while a trio of Husker quarterbacks threw for a combined 355 yards on 24-of-29 passing.

Starter Taylor Martinez played just two series, going 8-of-10 for 105 yards, while backups Ron Kellogg III and Tommy Armstrong looked good in their battle for the number two spot on the depth chart.  Kellogg, a senior, was 11-of-12 passing for 148 yards in the first half, while Armstrong, a redshirt freshman, was impressive running the option.

The ‘Voice of the Cornhuskers’ Greg Sharpe talked with ESPN 99.1′s Jeff Harkness about the play of the quarterbacks.

Eleven of the receptions went to Nebraska tight ends, with Jake Long and Sam Cotton leading the way. Jeff asked Greg about this group of tight ends.

At running back, sophomore Imani Cross and walk-on redshirt freshman King Frazier are trying to join Ameer Abdullah, as the Huskers try to replace the departed Rex Burkhead.  What did Greg think about the running game and the play of the offensive line?

The biggest question marks continue to be on the defensive side of the ball, as defensive coordinator John Papuchis said after the game he was ‘a little bit disappointed’ by the play of his group, especially in the first half.  Several key defenders missed the game with injuries, and Jeff asked Greg about the current state of the Nebraska defense.

As for special teams, kicker Mauro Bondi did make a 50-yard field goal, and missed a 58-yarder, as the Huskers try to find a replacement for Brett Maher.

Greg also called the game’s most memorable moment, when seven-year-old Jack Hoffman, who’s battling cancer, ran for a 69-yard touchdown, and then celebrated with the entire Nebraska team, and the more than 60,000 fans at Memorial Stadium.  Greg talked about Saturday’s unforgettable touchdown run.
