Vizio Must Pay Over $2 Million for Spying On TV Viewers
For the 11 million people who have VizioTVs, you may have thought you were watching TV but in fact, the TV was watching you and now the company has to pay.
According to the huffingtonpost.com, Vizio has agreed to pay $2.2 million to settle a lawsuit with the Federal Trade Commission after the television manufacturer was caught gathering customer data without permission for years.
Vizio collected billions of pieces of data each day from viewers television screens and then sold the information to advertisers and others, according to the complaint. The FTC says that all smart TV makers should get people’s consent before collecting and sharing television viewing information and Vizio now is leading the way.
