Thanks to Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway, a family is getting some help when they need it most.

Nine-year-old Harley Carnes was in a serious car accident in March while on vacation with his mom in Florida. It happened the day before his birthday, and he was paralyzed from the neck down. At the time, doctors gave Harley a 5% chance of survival.

Now, Greenway is doing what he can to make the transition easier for Harley and his family by giving them a handicap-accessible van with the help of Jay Malone Motors.

Greenway, a Mount Vernon, South Dakota native, heads the Lead the Way Foundation.

Established in 2008, the primary focus of Chad Greenway’s Lead The Way Foundation is to provide seriously ill and physically challenged children throughout the Twin Cities with daily support and life-changing experiences.

During a youth camp Greenway conducts, Harley got chance to meet his hero – and learn about the gift.

Our camp mantra is appreciation, and I just think that really ties into what we’re trying to teach these kids at the camp.” - Chad Greenway, Minnesota Vikings

And while Harley still faces a lot of challenges, doctors are hoping he will continue to make progress over time.

It’s stories like this that remind us of how much good can be done by athletes and celebrities.  All it takes is a warm heart and good intentions, and lives can be changed forever.
