RAPID CITY - A van involved in a crash on Interstate 90 in southwestern South Dakota that killed one person and injured six others was transporting military veterans who receive treatment at Veterans Affairs medical facilities in the region.

Forty-six-year-old Kristian Sateren, of Sturgis, died in the crash Tuesday afternoon between Rapid City and Black Hawk. The van's driver and four other passengers suffered what the Highway Patrol said were serious injuries. The car's driver suffered minor injuries.

The van was one of several that provide transportation for veterans going to VA facilities at Hot Springs and Fort Meade. Spokeswoman Jill Broecher tells the Rapid City Journal that the accident has hit the entire VA Black Hills Health System hard.
