VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — The University of South Dakota's school of education has been awarded full accreditation by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education through the fall of 2018.

USD school of education has been accredited by NCATE since 1956. It holds NCATE accreditation for its initial teacher preparation program and advanced preparation for teachers and other professionals.

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation says the school continues to meet the rigorous standards set by the professional education community.

The accreditation announcement followed a review of the school of education's self-study report submitted in November 2011 and a site visit by an NCATE Board Of Education review team in April.
