Turtle Creek, Redfield Lake to Remain Closed Pending Water Test Results

REDFIELD, S.D. (AP) — A lake and creek in east central South Dakota will remain closed for at least a couple more days pending the results of water testing.

Spink County emergency management director Larry Tebben says the state Department of Environmental and Natural Resources is testing samples of water that was collected from Turtle Creek and Redfield Lake this week.

Tebben says a mixture of mud and water that was deposited in the creek prompted the closures Tuesday. He says he does not expect the tests to raise any environmental concerns, but the county is keeping the lake and creek closed as a precaution.

It wasn't immediately clear how the mixture ended up in the area.

Tebben says high school students sometimes swim in the lake.
