Mere days after a small plane crashed north of Sioux Falls with no injuries, a different story unfolded around 40 miles away on Friday.

Multiple sources report that two people died in a plane crash near Viborg. Turner County Sheriff Byron Nogelmeier told KDLT News that the plane crashed into a corn field and burst into flames on impact around 10:00 AM. There were no survivors.

Additionally, Nogelmeier revealed that a nearby landowner heard the plane crash and then alerted authorities. The single-engine plane crashed near 291st Street and 445 Avenue, which is approximately a mile west of Viborg.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash to determine the cause.
