The National Association of Town Watch developed National Night Out more than 30 years ago. Today, it involves more than 16,250 communities and 38.1 million people around the world. Sioux Falls Neighborhood Watch Groups and the Sioux Falls Police Department will host our annual Sioux Falls National Night Out on Tuesday evening, August 1, 2017.

Police officers will attend several Neighborhood Watch Groups. Personnel from other City of Sioux Falls departments will attend as well. The goal is to have residents come out of their homes, meet and get to know their neighbors to make safer neighborhoods.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs. It will also strengthen neighborhood spirit, police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and know what to look for.

National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote community and police partnerships in our fight for a safer community and nation. The benefits that Sioux Falls will receive from National Night Out extend well beyond this night.
