Angie Gentry appeared on the red carpet at the 2017 CMA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 8) exactly two months after the tragic death of her husband, Troy Gentry, one half of the country music act Montgomery Gentry, in a helicopter accident on Sept. 8. Gentry was accompanied by her and Troy's daughter Kaylee, fulfilling a promise that the late singer had made to her before his death.

In 2017, Troy Gentry had promised his daughter, Kaylee could attend an awards show with her father, AOL reports. Gentry's wife made sure her husband kept his promise to their 15-year-old, and they were the picture of grace as they walked the 2017 CMA Awards red carpet, and then tearfully watched a tribute performance during the show itself.

At the 2017 CMA Awards, Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts sang the Montgomery Gentry hit "My Town" while images from Gentry's life and career flashed on the screen behind them. Rascal Flatts lead singer Gary LeVox sported a Batman T-shirt to commemorate Gentry's affinity for the superhero, while Gentry's duo partner, Eddie Montgomery, made a surprise appearance onstage to complete the performance.

Angie Gentry and her daughter were not the only members of the audience in tears during the tribute. Troy Gentry's loss was felt keenly among country stars from all generations, and as the all-star audience sang along with the tribute, many of his friends and colleagues joined his family in grieving his loss.

In addition to Kaylee, Troy Gentry also had another daughter, Taylor, from a previous marriage.
