Tribes to Consult on New South Dakota State Park

PIERRE - Officials from the South Dakota Department of Games, Fish and Parks will meet with Native American tribes next month to discuss the development and interpretation of the new Good Earth State Park.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard recently signed a bill into law establishing the 615-acre Good Earth State Park at Blood Run. It's South Dakota's 13th state park.

Blood Run was designated a national historic landmark in 1970. The area along the Big Sioux River bordering Iowa was used by thousands of Oneota Indians into the early 1700s. The area includes a large oak forest, rolling hills, flood plains, riverside bluffs and burial mounds.

The meeting will take place April 8 in Sioux Falls.
