RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Some tourists are upset that Mount Rushmore National Memorial in western South Dakota has been closed by the partial shutdown of the federal government.

Wolfgang Ludmann tells KOTA-TV he is angry because he came all the way from Germany to see Mount Rushmore, but could only see it from the road.

Orange cones block the main entrance to Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills. Even some viewing areas along roads are blocked off.

The Black Hills and Badlands Tourism Association says the government shutdown also has closed Badlands National Park, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument and the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site in western South Dakota. The association says some of the parks can still be seen from nearby roads.
