DELMONT, S.D. (AP) - The fire chief of Delmont says some people are injured after a tornado struck the small southern South Dakota town.

Fire Chief Elmer Goehring tells The Associated Press "There have been some injuries," but he was too busy to give details.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says law enforcement officials said a tornado hit Delmont about 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

Owner Anita Mathews of the Old Bank Mini-Mart in Delmont says the tornado caused heavy damage to a Lutheran church and the city's new fire hall.

Mathews says the town is without power.

The South Dakota Office of Emergency Management is sending help.
