September 22 marks an important anniversary for something we all love. It was on this date in that a patent was granted for the ice cream cone.

The year was 1903, and Italian entrepreneur, Italo Marchiony, was the recipient for his invention: the ice cream cone.

Ice cream cones were mentioned back in the early 1800's in French cooking and so on. So they existed back then, but our Italian friend was the guy who got the patent.

Popularity soared the year after Marchiony owned the rights. The treat that everybody would love forever, made its debut at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, Missouri.

In 1912, an inventor from Oregon, Frederick Bruckman, obtained a patent for a machine to make them. He sold his company to Nabisco in 1928, and they still make ice cream cones today.
