If unlike me, you are trying to lose weight, (I found it!) keep weight off, (uh huh, I'm keeping it alright) or just trying to avoid gaining what amounts to a newborn baby this holiday season, once again, I've done the reading for you.

Keri Glassman is a Registered Dietitian who does reporting for Today and she has some suggestions which could help you win the battle of the crab puff and pizza rolls this holiday season.

  1. Use hors d'oeuvres to your advantage - Eating protein helps satisfy you and may help you eat less. (This is so true. Immediately after I've eaten half of a rotisserie chicken hot out of the HyVee kitchen, I feel sooo satisfied!)
  2. Freeze holiday meal leftovers immediately- This will stop post-meal grazing. (Unfortunately, this is against my religion!)
  3. Wake up and get your workout out of the way first thing in the morning- Research shows that women who work out in the morning, move more and are less tempted by food later in the day. (I know I always feel better after I've swung my legs out of bed, stretched, listened to all my joints crack and taken that long walk to the bathroom, then kitchen, for lifesaving coffee.)
  4. Wear something formfitting that makes you feel amazing - the theory is that doing this will make you more mindful of eating healthily. (At this point in my life, what isn't formfitting? What is important, is- -stretch!)
  5. For every glass of alcohol, have one of water or seltzer, avoid the eggnog and fancy coffees and you'll save yourself tons of empty calories. (A. I'd spend the entire holiday in the bathroom drinking all that H2O! and B. No eggnog! Take away my reason for living why don't you?!)
