Friends, family, media, songwriters and anyone lucky enough to be invited squeezed into Gray's on Main in Franklin, Tenn. on Sunday night (Sept. 14) to watch Tim McGraw play songs and talk about his new 'Sundown Heaven Town' album.

The superstar worked the room, graciously shaking hands, taking pictures and sharing stories with anyone in earshot. A few drinks -- like the Jack Daniels-infused cocktail created just for this evening -- lowered the shield many in the music industry typically hold up around celebrities. The result was a few hundred as eager to say "hi" as the fans who worked through his meet-and-greet line during the 2014 Sundown Heaven Town Tour.

Eventually, McGraw -- looking sharp in dark plaid trousers and his signature black cowboy hat -- took the stage to perform 'Shotgun Rider,' 'Keep on Truckin'' and 'Felt Good on My Lips.' The Warren Brothers joined him for the latter before performing a song of their own and giving the stage to songwriters like Rhett Akins, Barry Dean and the team behind ‘Last Turn Home,’ Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd.

The next morning, McGraw was up before sunrise to do media at a private farm in Nashville. Taste of Country was on hand to talk to the singer about the important songs on the album, his performance at the 2015 Taste of Country Music Festival and the time he partied with Kid Rock.

“He came to the show that night," McGraw tells ToC, remembering the Detroit concert, "and after the show my band and I and Billy Gibbons was there from ZZ Top … we went back to his place, in his studio and all plugged in and played. I think we got there at one in the morning and I think we left at 7:30 or 8 o’clock the next morning. Played all night.”

“We played every ‘70s rock song we know," he revealed.
