Sioux Falls and the surrounding area have been basking in VERY mild temperatures for the past week and it sounds like more of it on the way with highs in the low 50s in the forecast for Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls and all the TV meteorologists have been talking about the dry weather as well and the possibility of a brown Christmas.

I live on the west side of Sioux Falls and woke up to overcast skies and brown grass off my patio, yet residents on the city's east side woke up to snow on the ground!

It's hard to forecast man made snow. You read that right. The snow in your yard on the east side of Sioux Falls can be attributed to Great Bear Recreation Park! They've been making snow since Mother Nature has been uncooperative in providing skiing and snowboarding weather. The National Weather Service says the ice crystals from the man made snow seeded the clouds to produce the snow! It occurs a couple of times each winter season depending on the atmospheric conditions. Here's a graphical explanation from the National Weather Service.
