It seems like television today is filled with shows looking for new....talent.

'American Idol'.  'The Voice'.  'So You Think You Can Dance'.  And on and on.

Well, the concept is nothing new.  In fact, it's as old as television itself.

Beginning in 1948 and running to almost the end of the 1950's, it was a man named Arthur Godfrey that came into people's home on TV (well, at least the people who even had TV!).

'Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts' was bigger in it's day than 'American idol' has been the past decade.

Glitz and glamor?  Uh, well....no, a little more home spun.
