The power of the spoken word absolutely amazes me. I've always been drawn to oral interpretation. Probably explains why I've worked in radio all my life. There's something about painting a "mind picture" for each individual listener that's special.

I truly believe "listening" to something - whether it be a piece of music, or a poem, or a story - is much more powerful than "watching" something play out. I want to be moved emotionally, and I just don't get that by sitting and watching a video.

Take baseball, for example, there's a sport that was intended to be listened to over the radio. Radio announcers know how to paint a picture in your mind to where you feel like you're actually at the ballpark. TV announcers, not so much - just my opinion.

A friend of mine who I work with, Travis Jacobs, is quickly become one of the best storytellers and authors in the area. If you haven't checked out his website, please do so. It's www.rhythmwisdom.com. What he can do with the spoken word is amazing.

His most recent piece is entitled "Anthem for the Unheld." It's about seeing babies in an orphanage and how it impacted him personally. The way he describes the babies in their cribs is chilling. Please, give his story a listen, it may just change your life.
