Yep, they told us over and over and over. The Maytag repairman was the loneliest man in the world.

Why?  Well of course, because Maytag's were built so darn good, you never needed a repairman!  At least, well, that was according to the famous Maytag television commercials.

It seemed like we saw the above Maytag Repairman forever, but actually this guy was an actor named Jess White and, if he looks familiar, he should.  Besides being famous for being this lonely guy, Jesse was a terrific character actor who appeared on almost all your classic favorites, including The Dick Van Dyke Show, The twilight Zone, Andy Griffith Show, I Dream Of Jeannie, and....well, most of the rest.

But from 1967-1988, he was the Maytag Repairman, the loneliest man in the world.

And oh, by the way, do you remember who replaced him in 1989?

Actor Gordon Jump...you know him as the radio station manager from 'WKRP In Cincinnati'.

One more thing: Jesse White passed away in 1997 at the age of 80.
