Do you dread going to the grocery store as much as I do?

I find the whole grocery store shopping experience to be somewhere in between trying to remove one of those hard to get at splinters that hurt like a SOB, and say having your sump pump backup every night for an entire week!

Honestly, going to the grocery store just blows!

And it's probably because I always seem to be a magnet for one of those jacked up carts.

You know the kind, with the front wheel that only wants to go east and west, when you need to go north and south. I don't know what it is, but I seemingly always get one of those damn things!

I also have a nasty knack for stumbling across two people having a BS session right in front of the item I need to buy.

Is there anything worse than having to try and squeeze in between two people that refuse to move, no matter how many times you say "Pretty please with sugar on it, can you move your ass, so that I'm able to grab a can of baked beans off the shelf?"

Then there's the whole checkout line experience. How many times have you been right behind the woman at the register that can't seem to locate her 25 cents off coupon for Maxi Pads? She frantically searches her purse, her pockets and then has to run out to the car to find the elusive tampon coupon. Only to return, remembering that she accidentally left it on the kitchen table next to the Wheat Thins.

I don't know how many times I've been tempted to say, HEY! Lady! The Dolphins kickoff in three minutes, just throw the damn box in my cart and I'll buy it for you!

If you too get the feeling that you're wasting a great portion of your life wandering around grocery stores, putting up with blithering idiots, you're right!

A study has found that the average person now spends an hour and 26 minutes every week grocery shopping! That by the way is three times longer than it took us 10 years ago.

So what's taking so long these days? There are five main reasons:

  • There are more choices than ever before.
  • We spend more time trying to figure out good bargains or how to "extreme coupon" our way to big discounts. Hello tampon lady!
  • Grocery stores are bigger than they used to be.
  • We're more budget conscious ever since the recession. Spending far more time calculating how much we're spending during each trip.
  • And finally, being more health conscious these days, people spend more time reading nutrition labels.

I think they must have accidentally forgotten to include reason number 6, "Maxi Pad Mary."

Trust me, she's out there, and ready to add a good ten minutes to your grocery store shopping time!
