The Georgia Satellites Were Almost Country
In 1986 a song hit the Top 5 on the rock and roll charts called ‘Keep You Hands To Yourself’.
Who is that band?
Well, it was a band called The Georgia Satellites, and of course the band came out of Georgia, having been formed in Atlanta.
The song came off the band’s self-titled debut album and while it became a huge pop/rock hit, it had a little too much Allman Brothers and not enough Charlie Daniels to make any noise on the country charts.
The Satellites released a few more albums, none with the success of their debut and no singles as big as ‘Keep Your Hands To Yourself’.
Dan Baird was a founding member and lead singer of the band and these days he has a new band he plays with while a version of The Georgia Satellites also performs.
