Looking back at the 1990 Country Music Association Awards Show, it looks like a 'Who's Who' of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The nominees that year included names like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Waylon Jennings, Reba McEntire and more.  And while some awards did indeed go to some of those legendary artist's (Vince won Single of the Year for 'When I Call Your Name', George Strait garnered the coveted Entertainer of the Year, and Garth Brooks won the Horizon Award, an award that essentially goes to someone who's an 'up and comer'), it was also a night for artist's that have not yet achieved Hall of Fame status.

The Male Vocalist of the Year honor went to one of the 'hat acts' of Country Music, Clint Black, while Kathy Mattea took home Female Vocalist of the Year honors.

But in what some may have thought was a surprise, both Group of the Year and Album of the Year honors went to...

Now, it wasn't a suprise because the Headhunters weren't deserving (The album was 'Pickin' On Nashville'), they certainly were.  It's just that we were so used to hearing names like Alan Jackson, George Strait, and Ricky Van Shelton (other album nominees).

So, to celebrate the Year In Country 1990, let's all go, one more time, down to 'Dumas Walker'.
